Like a lot of people I know, I’ve always wanted to get more involved with charities. But, as most people, I’m just too busy. Being a teacher, writer and husband is more than a full time job. And I don’t even have kids yet.

Then there’s the famous, "I’ll do it when I have more time. When I have enough money to scale down a bit or when I retire."

But I recall someone once saying you should live your live as if you are already where you want to be. I want to be a successful writer, so why not live like one (As long as I don’t spend money I don’t have yet)? I’ll definitely get more involved with charities when I’m a successful writer, so why not start now? In the end, it’s one step closer to where I want to go.

Time is still a problem for me, because if I don’t spend enough time writing I’ll never achieve my goal. But life is about balance. A writer needs to get out from behind his desk and live life. Otherwise he or she will have nothing to write about. No way to relate to real life situations.

So I have thus decided to get involved through visiting a few of my favourite charities and supporting them where I can. For now it is through advertising them on my website, Facebook pages and with a bit of money. I do and will always give 10% of my writing income to charity.

Here is a link to my fundraising page if anyone would like to know more. These are mostly South African charities, so any donations made in dollars, euros and pounds would be even more helpful.

Remember: A happy life is a giving life.

All the best.
