POV Character #2

Posted by Joe Mynhardt on Monday, March 5, 2012, In : Novel: They Came From Shadows

A few weeks ago I blogged about Beorn, the point of view character in my novel, They Came From Shadows (click here if you missed it).

Today I’m going to talk a bit more about another important character in the book, a boy whose worth increases with every page of the book. He is also the second and last pov character.

Sven, the younger brother of the woman chosen to care for the injured Beorn, experiences the arrival and influence of the warrior on the village from a unique persp...

POV Character #1

Posted by Joe Mynhardt on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, In : Novel: They Came From Shadows

This morning I reached the middle of my second draft of my very first novel, and the idea of introducing you to my first pov character clobbered me over the head.

Here follows a quick summary of one of my two main characters (his goals, values, obstacles etc.):

Posted by Joe Mynhardt on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, In : Novel: They Came From Shadows

I had a change of heart just before putting the first word down, and decided to write the book in third person. Due to the fact that it benefits the story better, it just made more sense that way.

At the moment I am 15000 words in, so everything is going to schedule. There were a few moments where fear and a lack of confidence started...

One Giant Leap.

Posted by Joe Mynhardt on Friday, December 16, 2011, In : Novel: They Came From Shadows

Six o’ clock on a Friday morning and I am wide awake. And yes, I am on holiday. So why have I been awake since four, you might ask. Let’s call it anticipation. Perhaps ‘excitement’ sounds a bit more appropriate.

After writing fifty seven short stories, of which thirty five have been published and eighteen are still taking space on the desks of editors from all over the world, I’ve finally decided to write my first novel. I’ve tested the novel-writing waters for the last few m...
